San Diego County Air Pollution Control District reports: Due to the Southern Fire burning near Shelter Valley in San Diego County, smoke is affecting parts of the County on the eastern side of the mountains. As of Sunday morning, smoke is blowing into and near the southern part of Anza-Borrego State Park, creating smoke impacts at ground level. In areas west of the mountains, air quality will not be impacted by this fire and will remain good to moderate. In the immediate area of the fire and downwind, air quality can reach unhealthful levels. In areas of heavy smoke, assume that air quality levels are unhealthy for sensitive groups to unhealthy for all individuals. In areas with minor smoke impacts, assume that air quality levels range from moderate to unhealthy for sensitive groups. The forecast is for winds to remain strong into Monday morning and the smoke to continue to blow in the same general direction - toward the east and southeast of Shelter Valley, toward the desert. In areas where you smell smoke it is advised that you limit physical/outdoor activity. If possible, stay indoors to limit your exposure to fine particulate matter, especially those residents with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly, and children. In areas not impacted by the smoke, the air quality forecast for Sunday, May 2 and Monday, May 3 is for air quality levels to be GOOD to MODERATE throughout the day.
