Tusil Fire Doubles in Acreage Shelter for Evacuated Residents Open

A shelter for people displaced by the now 1,000-acre Tusil Fire is open at the Golden Acorn Casino.

Officials established an overnight shelter operated by the American Red Cross at the Golden Acorn Casino, 1800 Golden Acorn Way, which had previously served as a Temporary Evacuation Point. Small animals are welcome outside in County Animal Services trailers and trucks. Large animals can be evacuated to the County South Shelter, 5821 Sweetwater Road in Bonita.

The wildfire started at 2 p.m. off Interstate 8 and Williams Road, near the Indian Reservation in the community of Campo.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department issued Evacuation Orders and Warnings. An Evacuation Order requires immediate movement out of the affected area due to an imminent threat to life. An Evacuation Warning means there is a potential threat to life and/or property.

Interstate 8 remains closed to all traffic between Highway 94 and Buckman Springs Road in both directions.
